Latest Newsletter: DevonCANNewsletterOct2009.pdf

Since putting out our first call for members a few weeks ago, groups have started to sign up. We know that there is plenty of interest out there as people have been contributing to this website and it is showing plenty of interest and enthusiasm.

Now is your opportunity to join DevonCAN itself - membership form: DevonCAN Membership application.doc

Your membership will provide you with the opportunity to link to your fellow groups and individuals whose passions lay with Climate Change issues. The network can provide the opportunity to keep up with the news of what other groups are doing and the exciting projects they are up to and how they went about setting them up. In addition, the network provides news of wider opportunities which individual groups may not get to hear about; whether that is funding or support and knowledge about what is happening elsewhere.

The more groups are signed up, the stronger and more effective we can be together.

Remember membership is free!

DevonCAN Network Event

10am - 4pm, Saturday 21st November 2009 Belmont Centre, Western Way, Exeter

Come along and meet fellow activists from across the county . The theme of the event is “Synergy - How working together makes each of us stronger.”
We will be learning from each other, exploring ways to share resources, ideas, saving time and having fun. We will be exploring how can do joint projects, events and activities and communicate more effectively.

In addition, having done its job, the small group who have been beavering away as the Interim Steering Group will also be standing down to make way for a more permanent Steering Group to guide DevonCAN into the future. If your group would like to be part of the event and part of the growing network of Devon-based groups, then e-mail us at admin.devoncan@googlemail.com and we will send you joining instructions and registration forms for DevonCAN if you aren't already a member.

The event which includes lunch, is free, but if you would like to make a donation to the cost of running it, that would be great .

Why a Network?

There are many groups and individuals across Devon interested in sustainability, transition and low carbon useage. Up until now these groups have been largely working in isolation with variable degrees of success in their campaigning. Devon Climate Action Network plans to help these groups in their work by:
1. facilitating the sharing of knowledge, skills and resources
2. helping the groups promote each others work
3. helping coordinate joint campaigns to reach the Devon population in a more effective manner
4. offering a coordinated lobbying of local government
We believe that through rapidly accelerating climate change and the reaching of peak oil, a collapse in world economic order as we know it is about to happen. By working together we believe we will be more effective at getting our message across.

The Devon CAN Network is your network. Please let us know what you as a group or as an individual would want the Network to do for you. Have you any skills or knowledge that you would like to share? Do you know of other individuals or groups who would like to be involved in the Network? Please spread the word. By working together we can work smarter. Time is short. We need to look at different ways of improving the delivery of our message. We believe that Devon CAN will be able to help promote the message to a different level.
